Kevin Durant To Have Surgery, Miss Remainder Of Season
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Oklahoma City star and reigning NBA MVP, Kevin Durant, will have bone graft surgery on his injured right foot and miss the remainder of the season. The announcement came on Friday from Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti.
Durant, who is expected to resume basketball activities in four-to-six months, underwent surgery to allievate soreness on the same right-foot back on February 23rd. Durant, 26, averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 27 games this season.
Next season, 2015-16, is the final year on Durant's contract. The recent play of Thunder point-guard Russell Westbrook, combined with Durant's contract situation, has created trade speculation.
The Sixers own the Thunder's 2015 draft pick, top-18 protected. Currently, the Thunder (41-31) own the NBA's 12th-best record---which slots them as the eighth and final playoff-seed in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City's 2015 first-round pick would be No. 19 if the season ended today, which would vest for the Sixers.
