Kennedy McMann Dishes On Playing The CW's Nancy Drew

Philadelphia (CW Philly) — Kennedy McMann grew up a fan of the Nancy Drew series, and now she is sharing what it's like to portray the young sleuth in The CW's adaptation.

"I read all the books; I played all the games. It's been a part of my life for so long. It's truly a dream come true," McMann told ComicBook.com.

However, the 23-year-old actress confessed that she felt pressure to perform well considering the history of the Nancy Drew franchise, which includes a hit show in the 1970s and a number of failed remake attempts.

"It was a little intimidating because I was like 'they've tried this so many times. I've got to be the one to do it!' We were all on our toes, and I know CBS felt the same way. CBS Studios have had the rights for a while. So it feels really good to be able to fulfill those dreams for all of us," she said.

McMann also discussed the film Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, which was released earlier this year.

"It was very strange... it was coming out after we had all auditioned for the pilot. So, we were like, 'oh, this is odd,'" McMann reflected. "But it was very different from everything I've seen. I haven't been able to see the film yet, but it seems very different, so I think you can enjoy both Nancy Drews."

Additionally, McMann gave viewers an idea of what they can expect out of the new CW show.

"It's a bit of a thriller. Obviously it's a mystery so there's lots of detective work that you can see. But it doesn't take itself too seriously, and we don't sink into melodrama. These are friends who are smart and witty and funny, so there's snark, there's some romance. It checks all the boxes," she explained.

Nancy Drew will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 9 p.m.  on The CW Philly.
