Kelly: Bradford, Mathews Still In Concussion Protocol

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford, who suffered a left-shoulder injury and a concussion last Sunday, has not passed the league's concussion protocol yet.

"He hasn't been cleared through the concussion protocol, so he won't be allowed to practice today," Chip Kelly told reporters on Wednesday.

"[Running back] Ryan Mathews same thing and [guard] Josh Andrew is the same thing," Kelly said. "All three of those guys have not cleared through the system they have in place. So they're not allowed to practice"

How is Bradford's shoulder?

"Hasn't been able to do anything because he hasn't cleared the concussion protocol," said Kelly. "So, really can't tell."

94WIP's Howard Eskin reported earlier this week that Eagles' left-tackle Jason Peters refused to dress because he wasn't going to start. Kelly refuted that report.

"No. Jason can't go," Kelly said when asked about Eskin's report. "Jason's actually not gonna practice today. So he was ruled out by the doctors [last Sunday]. We'll see what goes on the rest of the week, but he's not gonna go today."

Safety Walter Thurmond is back at practice on Wednesday, while linebacker Connor Barwin is limited due to a quad injury, according to Kelly.

The 4-5 Eagles look to rebound from a frustrating one-point loss to the Dolphins this Sunday at home against the 4-5 Tampa Bay Bucs. Despite the mounting injuries, Kelly is not making excuses for his team.

"I don't think it's difficult," Kelly said of his team's injuries. "Our guys had a real good training session yesterday and they're excited to go play. I think it's the same situation for everybody in the National Football League is in."
