Judge Formally Dismisses NJ Student's Lawsuit Against Her Parents
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) — A judge has formally dismissed the lawsuit brought by a New Jersey honor student who sued to get her parents to support her after she moved out of their home.
The dismissal order issued Tuesday by state Superior Court Judge Peter Bogaard comes nearly a week after Rachel Canning reunited with her family and moved back to their Lincoln Park home. That came without any promises of financial support or other consideration.
Bogaard had denied a request from Canning's attorney last week that sought a court-appointed guardian for the 18-year-old to be paid for by her parents.
Canning had claimed her parents threw her out when she turned 18. But they claimed she voluntarily left home last October because she didn't want to abide by reasonable household rules.
