Joe Paterno Among 2015 Inductees For The Pennsylvania Sports Hall Of Fame
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (CBS) -- Penn State Athletics announced on Tuesday that former football coach Joe Paterno was among the inductees for the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame to be inducted this October.
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 24 at Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia.
Paterno was at the helm for Penn State's football program for 45 years, amassing an NCAA-record 409 victories. He also racked up two National Championships in his time at Penn State.
Paterno was stripped of 112 wins during the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky scandal that rocked both the school and the football program. In January, those 112 wins were restored to the program which reinstated Paterno as college football's winningest head coach.
The former Penn State football leader will be joined in this year's Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame class by two fellow Nittany Lions. Former Quarterback Chuck Fusina and Kicker Matt Bahr will also be inducted.
In addition to the three inductees with ties to Penn State, the rest of the class includes Flyers legend Bernie Parent, NBA coach P.J. Carlesimo, swimmer Kristy Kowal, Super Bowl-winning linebacker Neal Olkewicz, Pitt football coach Foge Fazio, college and NFL football player Bill Koman, college and NFL football player Eric Crabtree, golfer Chip Lutz and wrestler Gray Simons.
