Jersey Shore Preparing For Winter Storm

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., (CBS) -- Rough seas act as a warning of things to come as wet, windy weather is about to soak the shore.

The Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management and City Public Works had a meeting Tuesday morning to finalize preparations for Winter Storm Cato.

"I spoke with Public Works Director and he's met with his crews and if we have to we can bring crews in right away if there is some accumulation but we don't anticipate it," says Atlantic City Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Foley.

The tides won't be unusually high but there's a chance for minor flooding in low-lying areas so all the city drains had to cleared.

Public safety officials have a message to those traveling toward the Jersey Shore for Thanksgiving.

"Well if you can, leave tonight," says Foley, "it would be great to have you here in the city."

If you're coming to Atlantic City for the holiday a great indoor attraction is the DO AC Tree & Light Fest which kicked off Tuesday.

Twenty-five uniquely decorated trees are on display in Tanger Outlets The Walk at Michigan and Artic Avenues.

"You know we really just want to have as many people come down and experience and enjoy the light and the beauty that is all over town," says Liza Cartmell, president of the Atlantic City Alliance.
