N.J. Man Accused of Killing Estranged Wife Appears In Court

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.J. (CBS)—A man accused of killing his estranged wife, and who led police on a two-week manhunt, appeared in court on Wednesday. His first appearance hearing was held at 2 p.m. in Cumberland County.

Jeremiah Monell, 32, was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. Monday when police tracked him to the woods behind Angelo's Pizza Shop on Route 54 in Folsom, New Jersey.

Monell is accused of killing his estranged wife, 35-year-old Tara O'Shea-Watson, in her Commercial Township home the morning of Dec. 19.

Authorities had found Monell's truck the next afternoon near the area off of Sawmill Road in Cedarville.

The victim's cousin had strong words for Monell after Wednesday's hearing. "He's hurt her for way too long," said Bryan Dunn. "Now, it's time for him to feel some of that pain, to take away his freedoms. Take away his rights to be with family and friends. Take away his rights of leaving to go to the store. Take away his rights. That's what I want to see. That's what my family wants to see."

Monell is facing murder charges and weapons offenses.
