Jeff Gordon To Drive Penn State Car At Upcoming Race

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon is set to drive a Penn State inspired car at Pocono Raceway on June 7. Gordon's signature No. 24 car will feature Penn State's blue and white color scheme and will have the school's name featured on the car.

Gordon will ride the Penn State inspired car due to his sponsorship from Axalta. The university also has a partnership with the company.

Axalta and Penn State have come together in an effort to the importance of educating students on fields related to science and engineering.

"The relationship between Penn State and Axalta offers our students the opportunity to learn about careers in business and engineering fields from the leaders of a global player based right here in Pennsylvania," university President Eric J. Barron said in a statement when the partnership was announced in March.

Gordon visited Penn State on Tuesday to unveil the car. He even took it for a spin around campus.
