NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- If New York City is a mecca for area Christmas shoppers and tree-gazers, it's also a getaway destination for Hanukah celebrations.
Pack a bag, hop a train or bus, and head for New York, where the nightly lighting of the world's largest menorah, at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue (top photo), sets the mood for celebration in the town that became home to America's largest Jewish population.
So, what to do after the menorah lighting?
If you're single, what else? Attend the "Matzo Ball"! Join a few thousand others on December 24th at the Capitale, at Bowery and Grand, near Chinatown, for the biggest Jewish singles' bash of the year.
It's close to Katz's Deli and Russ and Daughters, both icons of Lower East Side Jewish fresseries -- that's "eateries" in Yinglish (our term for Yiddish-English slang).

Also nearby, the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue will host tours on December 23rd, with music and wine.
