Jay Lloyd's Getaway: New Hope, Pa.

By Jay Lloyd

NEW HOPE, Pa. (CBS) -- The weather is becoming perfect for spring strolling.  And the town of New Hope, on the Delaware River, is once again coming alive with visitors and activity.

-----

The Bucks County Playhouse is staging new productions, shops are dressed in colorful displays, and you can ride the scenic New Hope & Ivyland Railroad to absorb the countryside.

Paul Harland, who manages the tiny, historic steam-driven railroad, describes what you'll see:  "Historic structures, mills, and beautiful homes."

Then, shop along New Hope's Main Street, were Anna Strange runs "Heart of the Home" and displays items that fit the store's old, historic, wooden structure.   What do they carry?

"Things that are handmade, functional, and unique," she says.

Later, you can splurge for dinner at Marsha Brown's, where Marsha brought a taste of her native New Orleans up north.

-----

"She came here to open another restaurant in Philadelphia and fell in love with New Hope," notes manager Wendy Kelly.  (That other restaurant, by the way, is Ruth's Chris, at Broad and Spruce Streets in center city.)

So take a look around New Hope:  ideal for day trip or a memory-making weekend.
