Jay Lloyd's Getaway: It's Time To Learn Skiing and/or Snowboarding
By Jay Lloyd
NEW YORK, N.Y. (CBS) -- If you woke up to find a snowboard or skis under the Christmas tree and have never been on the slopes, congratulations! There's a snow-filled getaway in your future.
Yes, you will fall. Even advanced skiers and riders do. Learning how to fall is the key to fun on the mountain.
In the upcoming week, 22 ski and snowboard resorts across the state will launch "Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month" in Pennsylvania. First-timers will be offered an extra discount on already reasonably priced beginner packages.
"The package would include a lift ticket, lessons, and rental equipment," notes Linda Irvin, director of the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association.
And, she points out, the lesson is essential:
"With the lesson, at least you can get down the slope and back up safely."
That first experience can set the tone for a lifetime of fun on the snow.
Remember: you're never too old to learn. I started skiing at age 40.
Bears hibernate -- people ski and ride! Have fun!
