PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Apple is investigating complaints over defective iPhone batteries in the new iPhone 8.

Some consumers in China, Japan, Greece and Canada are saying swollen batteries caused their devices to split open.

There is no word yet on what is causing the issue.

Apple launched the new model of the iPhone last month.
