I-95 north reopens in Northeast Philadelphia after early morning crash
A woman was struck by a car on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia early Monday morning, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
State police said the accident happened around 3 a.m. on I-95 North near Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia.
According to state police, the driver stayed on the scene and told troopers she was traveling northbound when a woman entered the highway from the grassy median on the left. The driver told state police she couldn't avoid the woman and struck her with the passenger side of her car.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, state police said.
State police are still attempting to identify the woman, who they said had no identification.
The accident caused a stretch of I-95 north to close.
According to the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management and PennDOT, the northbound lanes were closed between Exit 32 at Academy Road/Linden Avenue and Exit 35 at Woodhaven Road/63 West.
Traffic was temporarily diverted off I-95 onto Academy Road. Drivers should expect some residual delays Monday.
