I-78 east in Pennsylvania reopens after fatal crash involving 2 tractor-trailers

Two people were killed and four others were injured after a crash involving two tractor-trailers and a minivan on Interstate 78 in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, early Monday morning, according to state police.

I-78 reopened around 11 a.m. after the state police investigation shut the highway down for hours.

State police said the crash happened shortly before 5 a.m. at mile marker 61.6 on I-78 east in Upper Saucon Township.

According to state police, two tractor-trailers and a Toyota minivan were involved in the crash. Investigators said three people were outside the minivan attempting to push the vehicle into the right travel lane. One of the people pushing the minivan and the driver of one of the tractor-trailers were killed, state police said.

State police said three people were rushed to Saint Luke's Hospital Fountain Hill and another to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for their injuries. Their conditions are unknown.

The investigation remains ongoing.
