IKEA Announces Major Recall Of Child Safety Gates

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- IKEA has announced a major recall of child safety gates.

The gates are made by Patrull Klämma and Patrull Smidig.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the friction between the wall and the pressure-mounted safety gate is insufficient to hold the gate in its place, posing a hazard.

Additionally, the lower metal bar can be a tripping hazard.

Around 75,000 gates are being recalled.

The safety gates are white, made of steel and plastic and measure about 29 inches high.

The CPSC says there have been three incidents in which children have been injured as a result of falling down stairs.

Consumers can return the safety gate to any IKEA store for a full refund.
