I-95 in Philadelphia reopens after closure due to police activity
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police activity on Interstate 95 near Girard Avenue in Philadelphia led to the highway's closure Friday morning.
After 9 a.m., traffic started flowing on the northbound side of the highway. The southbound side reopened around 9:15 a.m.
Multiple Philadelphia police vehicles were on the scene responding to an incident.
A man was taken into custody shortly before 9 a.m.
Police said no injuries were reported.
Police said around 8:30 a.m. a man was pulled over for driving erratically and after stopping his vehicle, he exited while brandishing a handgun.
There was a back-and-forth with police. At one point, the man entered a Philadelphia police captain's parked car.
Officers followed the man while staying behind cover as he moved by foot southbound on the highway.
"After about 20 minutes, officers convinced the man to drop the weapon, and he was taken into custody," a police spokesperson said in a statement.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for a mental health evaluation.
