Hundreds To Gather In Bucks County To Help Feed The Hungry

By Lynne Adkins

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Hundreds of people are expected to gather in Bucks County on June 20th to help knock out hunger.

The daylong event at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown is aimed at feeding the hungry and filling local food banks. Jamie Haddon, the President and CEO of the Bucks County United Way, says volunteers will pick fresh vegetables and pack about 100,000 meals to go to area food banks and senior centers.

"During the summer our food pantries in the region, not just in Bucks County, are lower than ever because people are on vacation. In Bucks County, 15 percent of our children are food insecure and the only time they get a meal is when they go to school and get free and reduced lunches."

The event begins at 8 a.m. and Haddon says volunteers and financial donations are welcome
