"We sell halal," the sign on the truck says. Perhaps, but they also serve carbon monoxide. This dingy little truck near Penn's campus offers a lengthy menu of Middle Eastern dishes, including our choices of gyro shwarma ($4.75) and chicken and baba ghanoush wrap ($5).
The shwarma was, well, passable. The chicken wrap was packed with way too much raw onion, as well as a messy, gloppy sauce that is bound to end up your shirt, your car seat or the sidewalk, depending on where you open it.
But there's a bigger problem here. The House of Pita truck was idling the whole time we were there, as well as when we walked by again an hour later. It was spewing noxious fumes that make you want to put on a gas mask. And no one likes to eat a pita wrap through a gas mask.
We're hitting up 50 food trucks during this venture. This one may clinch last place.
