Honors in Delco For Another Powerhouse Little League Team

FOLSOM, Pa. (CBS) -- Delaware County Council today honored a team of eight-year-old Little Leaguers who stormed their way to victory in tournament play this summer.
The boys took time off from their classroom to receive citations in a ceremony at Ridley High School.
While most of the Delaware Valley had their eyes on the Taney Dragons' summertime run to the Little League World Series, these little guys were beating everybody on the way to the eight-and-under Mid Atlantic Regional Championship.
"We won the District One championship, then we moved on to the PA state championship," recalls head coach John Scanlon, "and then we had a week to prepare, fundraising and everything, to head to Rome, New York. (We) stayed in a hotel for a week, played from Monday through Sunday, and we can home with the championship on Sunday afternoon."
And many of the games weren't even close. The team members say they often led their opponents by ten runs, at which point the league's "mercy rule" kicked in, ending the game, normally six innings, early.
"We played four games that went six innings," noted one member.
So, naturally, this team now has dreams of becoming the next Taney.
"Oh, yeah, that's on everybody's mind, especially having another team that's so local doing what they did this summer," Coach Scanlon says. "It really got the interest in baseball high."
