Homeowners Ready For Some Much Needed Spring Projects

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A long, ferocious winter is finally behind us, and now it's time to get the yard primed for one of the most anticipated summers in recent memory.
This is the week when homeowners typically get a start on cleaning up the mess that Old Man Winter left behind. This year in particular, the work is something many have been looking forward to, so they're dusting off their tools, ready to tackle projects around the house.
"We're going to build our dogs a dog house. We want to start letting them stay outside longer and not be cooped up in the house so long."
"We're going to replace the sink top in our second bathroom. And then I have a vegetable garden I'm going to get started -- clean it out and planting the seeds."
Earl Fisher runs an HVAC business and he expects to see a boost in business starting this week.
"Mostly big projects," he says, "people looking to put new systems in."
Contractors who pave driveways or prune trees are also likely to see an increase in calls after Easter.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane says homeowners should be weary of transient contractors who sell their services door to door. Make sure to get the project details in writing and be sure to get the contractor's registration number.
