Holiday Shopping With Tibetan Flair
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- While most people flock to the malls or big box stores on Black Friday, some made their way to Rittenhouse Square for the annual Tibetan Bazaar. Not only can you find a good deal, but it's also the only place in the city where you can find an authentic Tibetan meal.
Before your eyes lay sight on the authentic handmade arts and crafts upstairs, your nose is treated to smells that make the mouth water as soon as you step foot inside the Philadelphia Ethical Society building. Sonam Dorji of the Philadelphia Tibetan Association says it's the only place you can find authentic Tibetan food like Momos.
"Quite similar to the steamed dumpling, but the ingredients are a little bit different and it's a little bit different taste if you compare it to like the Chinese dumpling."
You can also try Tibetan cucumber salad, stir fry, and lentil soups, but be warned - they're pretty spicy! Dorji adds that it's also a great place to find some unique holiday gifts.
"Jewelries like silver jewelries, arts and handicrafts and scarves. Tibetan clothes, scarves, and the silk. Some of them are from India, some of them from Tibet, and some of them from Nepal."
The two-day bazaar also offers a glimpse into Tibetan culture, and some proceeds benefit the Philadelphia Tibetan Association.
The Tibetan Bazaar runs from 10am to 5pm on Black Friday and Saturday.
