Heavy Storms Leave Behind Damage, Power Outages Across The Area

LOWER SALFORD Twp., Pa., (CBS) – Residents in the Delaware Valley are cleaning up the mess left behind by Tuesday's storms. About 20,000 were without power after severe weather rolled through the region.

In Limerick, Montgomery County powerful winds are being blamed for knocking down a tree on top of a home. It was around 7:20 p.m. when the single family home was damaged. Fortunately no one was there at the time.

"It caused some significant damage to the addition portion of the home," Said Greg Breyer, Limerick Emergency Management Coordinator.

In Lower Salford Township, small smoldering fires could be seen on a power line. It's believed winds knocked a pine tree branch onto the line. Fire crews were waiting on PECO to cut the power before going near the lines.

"One of the main branches fell onto what we call the primaries, which are the main lines on top of the poles that have a significant amount of power running through them," said Kevin Wasson of Harleysville Fire Company.

Just a few hundred yards away, a downed tree branch on Groff Mill Road knocked down power lines to a home. And in Abington, a large tree came down in the area of Fog Hallow Road and Washington Lane.

Emergency responders remind drivers that when they see roads that are closed or barricades up, not to drive around them.  There may be downed power lines on the other side that can be extremely dangerous.
