Hear Philly: Flavors Of The Avenue Returns To South Philadelphia
By Keith Anderson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Over two dozen award-winning East Passyunk restaurants will be participating in one of South Philadelphia's largest food festivals on Sunday, April 24th.
Renee Gilinger, executive director of the East Passyunk Business District, calls the Flavors of the Avenue event "a culinary trip around the world."
"We have a range of Filipino to Malaysian to really fine French cuisine to Italian meatballs and gravy," she says.
The festival, taking place along East Passyunk Avenue between Morris and Tasker Streets, is a rain-or-shine event with plenty of entertainment including live music.
"All of our music is local, the bands are Brian LaPann Trio, MJ Nestor, and The Primaries," says Gilinger.
From 12:30 to 6 p.m., a newly added segment called "Style Row" will feature an hourly fashion show from various shops, boutiques, and businesses along the Avenue.
"Our shops are all independently owned boutiques so you won't find this stuff anywhere else," Gilinger explains.
Outside of the flavors tent, Crafty Balboa's April Showers craft market will be selling handmade goods.
"It's a really well run show and its one of our three craft shows on the avenue that we have and it fits in with our vibe here of things being local, handmade, unique and one of a kind."
Tickets for general admission are $50 and include access to the food tent from 1 to 4 p.m. and unlimited alcoholic beverages including Victory craft beer, Milagro and Sailor Jerry cocktails. All proceeds benefit the East Passyunk Business District public safety programs.
