PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The 44th annual "Head of the Schuylkill" rowing regatta gets underway tomorrow morning on the Schuylkill River.

More than 1,600 boats are slated to take part in this year's regatta.

Race announcer John Curtin was asked what sets this regatta apart from others.

"It's really an opportunity for anyone to race," he says.  "It's a very inclusive regatta. It's open to high school, collegiate, masters, veterans, and adaptive levels of rowing.  So it's open to everyone who wants an opportunity to race."

Tens of thousands of people are expected to take in this year's regatta, and Curtin says there is something for everyone.

"We have a huge festival tent, sort of right in the middle of the race course. It's a great atmosphere," he tells KYW Newsradio.

This year's races, both Saturday and Sunday, are expected to feature competitors from 23 states and six countries.
