Drexel Hill man charged with attempted homicide in Havertown road rage shooting, police say
HAVERTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Drexel Hill man was charged with attempted homicide after he fired 13 shots at a woman and her nephew during a road rage shooting on Monday in Havertown, police said.
Haverford Township Police initially said the people inside the car were a mother and son, but confirmed Tuesday that the individuals were actually an aunt and her nephew.
Police identified the suspect as Sean Moses, a 30-year-old man from Drexel Hill. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other related offenses, according to the Haverford Township Police Department. On Tuesday, Moses was taken to George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Thornton, Pennsylvania, on $1 million bail. He had a permit to carry a gun, police said.
"Honestly I just really think God was on her side today," Joseph Hagen, the deputy chief of the Haverford Township Police Department, said.
The shooting happened on the 2000 block of West Chester Pike just before 3:30 p.m.
Police said the woman was driving on Interstate 476 when she noticed Moses in a dark Lincoln SUV tailing her closely. As she got off near Lawrence Road and West Chester Pike in Havertown, he pulled up alongside her white Jeep SUV, sideswiped her and then started shooting from his driver-side window.
Hagen said they didn't exchange any words, and the two didn't know each other.
Police said the woman was injured but she wasn't struck by gunfire. She suffered a minor cut on her arm by possible shrapnel or glass fragments after Moses fired shots into the headlight, hood and windshield of her white Jeep Cherokee, according to police.
Authorities said her 10-year-old nephew was in the vehicle at the time with the woman, but he wasn't injured. The woman and nephew were both taken to Lankenau Medical Center for treatment, police said.
The woman also helped police during the road rage shooting. After the incident, she was able to give a description of Moses and his license plate tags to the police.
"It was very instrumental for her to keep her wits about her to help us quickly solve this," Hagen said. "Tag readers played a real key in this. Radnor police was able to tell us this vehicle was still traveling through Upper Darby."
After the shooting, police said Radnor Township Police officers notified responding officers through license plate readers that Moses fled the scene eastbound on West Chester Pike in a black Lincoln SUV.
Police said Upper Darby Township police stopped Moses in his Lincoln at State Road and West Chester Pike in Upper Darby, where he was taken into custody without incident. A firearm was found on the front seat of his vehicle, according to police.
"With as many shots that were fired, we're very fortunate to be talking about a road rage incident and not a homicide," Hagen said.
