Haddington Branch Library Celebrates 100 Years In Overbrook

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Haddington Branch Library in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia celebrated a momentous occasion -- it opened on this very day, December 3, in 1915.
Library manager Frank Bonifante says Haddington has been a "cornerstone in the community" at 65th Street and Girard Avenue.
"Pretty good for 100, huh?"
Then, they cut a cake for everyone, including elementary school age children on up to retirees, who use its books, reference material, computers and games.
Nine-year-old Kareem talks about his visits to Haddington.
"I like to play here and meet some people here."
(Tawa:) "What are some of your favorite things in the library to look at?"
"I like fiction, like Diary of a Wimpy Kid."
Free Library President and Director Siobhan Reardon says it "embodies the best of what a neighborhood library can be."
"And it's clear that it will continue to impact its citizens for decades to come."
