Viral video takes Philadelphia pole tradition to Phoenix

Meet the Delco ASU student behind viral Super Bowl pole-climbing TikToks

Editor's note: Despite the humor of this video, CBS News Philadelphia does not encourage climbing light poles at any time.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's a tradition unlike any other here in Philadelphia. And while police aren't particularly fond of it, one local is hoping to bring that tradition to Arizona.

We're talking about climbing light poles, of course.

Grace Del Pizzo, a Delaware County resident who goes to college in Arizona, made a TikTok video letting Eagles fans know she's "holding down the fort" until they arrive next week.

The wheels started turning when her dad sent her an article about how Glendale and Phoenix police weren't going to be greasing the poles for the Super Bowl on Feb. 12.

"I had the idea for about a day beforehand, I was kind of scouting out locations," Del Pizzo said.

Who would scout out locations for pole climbing? An Eagles fan who wants other fans traveling to Arizona for the big game to know the different types of light poles they will be working with if they decided to do what they do best -- climbing poles.

"The people do end up thinking I'm a little crazy sometimes because I'm the only Philly sports fan they've met," Del Pizzo said. ''So that's why I can't wait for everybody else from the city to come out for the Super Bowl so they know I'm not the only one."

She encourages fellow Eagles fans to "bring their shorts" and wants you to know Rita's Italian Ice is open year-round since there's no winter.

Most importantly, her prediction for Super Bowl LVII is an Eagles win.

"31-27 Birds," Del Pizzo said.
