Caught On Tape: Good Samaritan Jumps Onto SEPTA Tracks To Rescue Passenger After Fall
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials say a man fell off a SEPTA platform onto the tracks and a Good Samaritan jumped to his rescue.
SEPTA says it happened at about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at the 15th Street Station of the Market-Frankford Line.
According to SEPTA officials, a man was walking close to the edge of the platform when he fell onto the tracks. Officials say another man walking on the platform immediately jumped down onto the tracks and rescued the man who fell.
Officials say it's unclear why the man fell onto the tracks.
Both were treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to SEPTA.
SEPTA says they recognize the man's heroic act but also warns riders of the dangers of getting on the tracks and advises all riders to immediately notify cashiers or SEPTA Police in incidents like these.
"What we recommend is that if somebody sees an emergency in the track area to immediately notify the cashier or hit the emergency box which goes directly to transit police," said SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel.
