Gina Rodriguez 'Jane The Virgin' Wins First Golden Globes Award For The CW

Being nominated among great actresses in amazing performances is a great honor in itself. That makes winning the award all the more substantial for one CW star.

Congratulations to "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez for taking home the first ever Golden Globes award for The CW.

The Golden Globes awards are selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and often selects up and coming talent.

Competing for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy with Rodriguez were well-known actresses in popular roles including Lena Dunham (Girls), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) and Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black).

Gina was one of the favorite moments of the evening according to fans on social media. Her uplifting message to the Latino community resonated with many.

During her acceptance speech Rodriguez tells the story of how every day her father would repeat this mantra, "It's a great day. I can and I will." As a nod to her dad, Rodriguez closed her speech with "I can and I did."
