German Shepherd To Graduate From Scent Detector School And Work DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --Two local dogs are getting ready for an important event -- their graduation.
Quest, a two-and-a-half-year-old explosives detection dog and Nero, a one-and-a-half-year-old narcotics detection dog will graduate from the Penn Vet Working Dog Center Patrol & Scent Detector School on Friday in Grays Ferry.
Less than two weeks after that Quest will partner up with handler Officer Richard Donaldson of SEPTA Transit Police to patrol the entire SEPTA Transit area for the Democratic National Convention July 25-28.
Nero and Officer Christopher Narkin will serve the city of Norristown, becoming Norristown Police Department's first K9 team in 10 years.
At the graduation both dogs will show off their new set of skills, searching vehicles for explosives and narcotics in a live demonstration.
The Penn Vet Working Dog Center opened on Sepetmeber 11, 2012. Quest and Nero, like all dogs at the facility, are named in honor of people who died in 9/11, as well as the K9s who served following the attacks.
