General Lee Driven From Doylestown Amid Flag Controversy

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A suburban Philadelphia T-shirt shop is nixing an appearance by the General Lee from "The Dukes of Hazzard," saying the Confederate battle flag on the car's roof made it too controversial.

The Monkey's Uncle in Doylestown says a replica of the police cruiser from "The Blues Brothers" movie will appear at this weekend's fifth anniversary celebration instead.

Store owner Derrick Morgan says he had second thoughts about the General Lee after the killing of nine people at an historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Civil rights and political leaders have called for the battle flag's removal from South Carolina's state capitol grounds and its image from Mississippi's state flag.

Wal-Mart, Amazon and other companies have banned sales of the flag. Warner Bros. has stopped making General Lee toy replicas.
