Funeral Services Scheduled For NJ State Trooper Killed In Crash
GLASSBORO, N.J. (AP) — Funeral services have been scheduled for a state trooper killed when his cruiser struck an electric utility pole while he was responding to a domestic dispute in rural southern New Jersey.
The viewing for 30-year-old Eli McCarson will be held Wednesday morning in Pfleeger Concert Hall at Rowan University in Glassboro. The funeral will follow there at noon.
McCarson was driving Thursday in Quinton Township when his car went off the right side of the road and hit the utility pole. He was trapped in the car while rescuers opened the jammed doors, and he died a short time later at a hospital.
He graduated from the academy in February and worked out of the Woodstown Station. He got married in September.
The cause of McCarson's death has not yet been determined. State police officials said the call he was responding to involved a child in mental distress, and that situation was later resolved.
Flags at all state buildings in New Jersey will be lowered to half-staff Wednesday to honor McCarson. The directive was made in an executive order issued Friday night by Gov. Chris Christie.
