From Pools To Fountains, People Doing What They Can To Stay Cool

By Justin Udo, Steve Patterson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The region is under an Excessive Heat Warning until 8 p.m.  Monday, and many people throughout the Delaware Valley are finding fun ways the whole family can beat the heat.

For the last few days, the temperature has easily made it into the 90's, but some say they think it's a lot hotter than that:

"It feels like it's about 19 million degrees out here."

But the pools and fountains all across the city give people an opportunity to cool off. In fact, many who spoke with KYW Newsradio flocked to the fountain at LOVE Park and across the street at Dilworth Park.

"I love playing in the water on this hot day."

"I like that it splashes on your face."

"It was a nice breeze and it kind of cooled me off after a really hot day and a lot of walking."

"Awe man, it feels great, especially being that it's free."

"I love to swim and play with my mom in the water."

"You meet people, you have a good time. It's nice that they built this out here."

At Drexel Park in West Philly, people were doing whatever they could to avoid the brutal heat as well.

"It's taxing," Julio Arostegui tells CBS 3. "Youre out there in the field and all you want to do is just run for the shade."

Arostegui says his son spent about ten minutes at the playground before heading toward the water. More than 50 families joined in before the evening.

Here are links to public cooling places and pools throughout Philadelphia.
