Freezing Rain, Icy Conditions Wreak Havoc On Tri-State Roadways

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Freezing rain and icy conditions are wreaking havoc on roadways around the region.  A freezing rain advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. for the Philadelphia region and 5 p.m. for the Lehigh Valley.

A multi-vehicle accident temporarily blocked all lanes of I-76 eastbound near Exit 338 early Sunday morning.

MLK Drive was closed as a result of the ice and in the Northeast, Bustleton Avenue and Trevose Road was closed due to numerous vehicles being stranded by the conditions.

Speed limits were reduced to 45 miles per hour along the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Interchange #298 Morgantown, and Interchange #359 Delaware River Bridge.

In Delaware, State Police closed the Roth Bridge and SR 1 due to the ice and the speed limit on I-495 was reduced to 45 miles per hour.

Speed limits were reduced to 50 miles per hour along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.

In West Windsor, New Jersey, police posted on their Twitter page: "Severe Ice Condition Everywhere. ALL ROADS ARE SOLID ICE, accidents EVERYWHERE. Do Not Venture Out."

Police are urging drivers everywhere to stay off the roads and avoid unnecessary travel.

SEPTA is reporting delays after experiencing some power problems. Several bus routes are operating with detours. Be sure to check SEPTA.org for information about your route.
