Former detective Philip Nordo sentenced to up to 49 years
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Philadelphia Homicide Detective Philip Nordo was sentenced Friday to 24.5 to 49 years in prison. His defense attorney had asked the judge for 10 years.
In June, he was convicted of sexually assaulting witnesses in murder cases.
Nordo was also found guilty of stealing reward money, meant to help solve the murder of off-duty Philadelphia Officer Moses Walker.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner called Nordo's crimes "extremely troubling."
"This a terrible abuse of power," Krasner said. "This is a terrible abuse of position to coerce and to victimize other people."
The Philadelphia Police Department fired Nordo in 2017.
