Former Montco Middle School Teacher Sentenced For Sex Offenses

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A Montgomery County judge has sentenced a once well-respected former middle school teacher to jail time for improper contact with two female students on the grounds of their Lower Gwynedd school.
Ronald Goldberg was sentenced to 6-23 months, followed by an additional three years of probation.
The first two months will be behind bars, the next four he will spend on house arrest.
The 66-year-old former Wissahickon Middle School teacher pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child for having inappropriate contact with two girls between 2003 and 2009 (see previous story).
Prosecutor Jeremy Lupo credits the victims for coming forward.
"They were very brave, they were very courageous," he tells KYW Newsradio. "They stood up against a very popular teacher to report this abuse. I would say that they stripped him of his ability to teach ever again and potentially find another victim."
Goldberg retired from the district more than four years ago. His attorney argued for probation, saying he was a revered educator who had no prior record and was not a risk to reoffend.
