Food Trucks Will Get Their Due With Weekend Festival Down The Shore
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) -- Many of us look at food trucks as a way to catch a quick bite on the run. But there are plans this June to celebrate the food truck with a weekend party in Atlantic City.
The Atlantic City Food Truck Festival, planned for June 18th and 19th in Brighton Park just outside the Claridge Hotel, will feature cuisine far beyond the standard hot dog, chips and a soda.
"You're going to have your food trucks. All kinds of assorted food trucks," B.J. Hamilton, owner of 609 Event Productions, told KYW Newsradio. "We're going to bring in live music. We're going to have a full service bar set up. We're also going to have a kids zone."
And if you think this will be a line of vendors all offering the same fare, think again. Hamilton is looking for 20 different food vendors to reflect the changing trends within the industry itself.
"You see that food trucks nowadays are basically almost an extension of brick and mortar establishments," he said. It's almost fine dining that they can bring to you."
Patrons will be able to vote for their favorite truck, with the winner getting a trophy and 500 dollars cash. Hamilton looks to make this an annual affair. 20 trucks will compete, with entries being solicited online at www.acfoodtruckfest.com .
