The Sea Isle Fire Department says that three buildings were destroyed -- six units total in the blaze. One of the homes experienced a near total collapse.
Video from Chopper 3 showed flames and smoke billowing from the homes as firefighters tried to douse the fire.
Jack McGarvey lives right across the street. He was worried if the fire jumped Landis Avenue, he and his wife who had a stroke in recent years might not have time to get out.
"When the wind is blowing this way coming off the ocean or something, them flames can come over so I was a little worried. I'm still a little worried. I got her dressed in case we have to move out," said McGarvey .
"We're focused on the fire suppression operations. Once the scene is deemed safe by the firefighters it will turn into an investigation and from that point, we will have more information," said Chief Tom McQuillen with the Sea Isle City Police Department.
Authorities say two residents were transported to an area hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. A search is underway for an 87-year-old woman.
