Fired A Year Ago, Former Tinder CEO Returns To Under 30 Summit Back On Top

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Whether you swipe right or swipe left, Tinder has reinvented how people date.
The founder and CEO returned to the Under 30 Summit in Philadelphia to share how he survived being the boss, booted, then back on top in less than a year.
Sean Rad returned to Tinder in August after being ousted as CEO during last year's Under 30 Summit.
"What matters to me is that Tinder wins," he says. "This isn't about me putting my stamp on it, it's about us fulfilling what we set out to do. We needed a level of experience that the board thought we didn't have and one path toward getting there was trying out a new CEO."
After being demoted, Rad says he decided to stay with the company he cofounded:
"I sorta saw my role as making sure that person succeeds because what's best for Tinder is for that person to have all the information and all knowledge I've gained and I can pass that over so they can make the best decisions."
He says he just wanted to do what was best for the company.
Now, Tinder is approaching ten billion matches.
"There's definitely increased engagement," adds Rad. "We're also getting smarter at putting the right set of people in front of you. People that we think there's a higher chance you'll like them which increases the number of matches people get and the quality of matches people are getting."
Tinder currently has 75 employees, but Rad says it's looking to hire another 60.
