Fire Sweeps Through 5 Row Homes In Trenton

TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) -- Flames ripped through five row homes in Trenton early Saturday morning.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. at a home along Home Avenue and quickly grew to three alarms.

Crews were able to bring the blaze under control but not before it spread to four neighboring homes.

Authorities say all the residents were able to get out safely, but the damage caused by the fire left all five homes inhabitable.

Officials say the neighborhood is one of the older ones in Trenton, so the homes are made of wood frames with no fire walls to prevent the flames from spreading.

It wasn't immediately clear how many people were displaced by the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
