Fire Rips Through Lindenwold, NJ Apartment Building

LINDENWOLD, N.J. (CBS) -- Flames tore through an apartment complex overnight in Camden County, New Jersey, forcing two dozen residents out in the cold.

The two-alarm fire broke out around 3 a.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Emerald Ridge Apartments along the 100 block of Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof of the building, but they were able to quickly contain the fire, despite battling the extreme cold and heavy winds.

Four units were damaged in the blaze, but no one was injured.

The American Red Cross was assisting 36 people, including 14 children, who were displaced by the fire.

Fire officials say the smoke alarms in the building were working properly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
