Fire Crews Battle 2-Alarm Blaze, Weather In Camden
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Firefighters had to battle a two-alarm house fire in Camden early Saturday morning, as well as the ice and bitter cold temperatures.
The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. at a home along the 1400 block of Norris Street and quickly spread to an adjoining home.
No injuries were reported, but seven people were displaced by the fire and were taken to area hospitals as a precaution.
Fire crews had to deal with ice and frigid temperatures, but were able to bring the fire under control, despite the elements.
"It is challenging," said Fire Chief Michael Harper. "When you first get here, your adrenaline is pumping and you are warm, and you go in the fire, and obviously that is warm as well, but when everything starts to break down, that's when you start to feel the effects of the cold. You have a slipping hazard out here because of the ice and because of the water used and everything."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
