Father Of Teen Suspected In Trooper Shooting: "I Don't Know Why He Did It"

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  With a cheer of "Let's go Eagles," Trooper Patrick Casey left Hahnemann University Hospital this morning.

He was shot during a gun battle on the Vine Street Expressway Tuesday.

Authorities say alleged gunman, 17-year-old Giovanny Cotto, will be charged as an adult with Attempted Murder.

Tonight the suspect's father is speaking to Eyewitness News about the fiery crash and subsequent shootout that left Pennsylvania State Trooper Patrick Casey shot in the shoulder.

"He did a wrong decision and i don't know why he did it," Hector Cotto, Giovanny Cotto's father told Eyewitness News near his North Philadelphia home.

Cotto is still processing the damaged left behind by his son and said right now, he is angry with him.

Hector says he spoke with his son last night after the teenager was arrested shortly after the shootout.

He tells CBS 3 he's glad his son and the officer are both alive.

"I apologize to him and his family. I know his father. He has his mom. He has his father. Like me. I got my mom and I got my father. You know. I apologize to the officer," he said.

19-year-old Bryan Lewis was also arrested and released last night.

He was in cuffs and in the back of another state trooper's vehicle when the chase and shooting happened.

This afternoon we also spoke with Giovanny's on-again, off-again girlfriend who said she was surprised by what happened and thinks the teen may have been using drugs.
