Family Of Technology Executive Killed In Train Derailment Files Lawsuit
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The husband of a technology executive killed when a speeding Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia has sued the railroad for wrongful death.
Rachel Jacobs was one of eight people killed May 12 when the train entered a sharp curve at more than twice the 50 mph speed limit. More than 200 others were injured.
The 39-year-old mother of a 2-year-old son was in the first passenger car, commuting home to New York from her new job as CEO of the Philadelphia educational software startup ApprenNet.
The lawsuit filed Friday on behalf of Jacobs' husband Todd Waldman accuses Amtrak of negligence and outrageous conduct and says the railroad failed to heed recommendations to install speed controls in the area.
Amtrak has said it won't fight liability in crash-related lawsuits.
