Evening Snow & Rain, Then A Chilly Thanksgiving

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Poconos, Lehigh Valley and northern Bucks, Montgomery and Chester counties, and Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for Philadelphia and nearby PA and DE suburbs.

The storm system will continue to track northeast off the East Coast tonight. The rain and snow line has held strong right over Philadelphia all day today, but it could still move southeast into NJ early in the evening. However, temperatures remain above freezing, so any accumulation would be on grassy, non-paved surfaces, if we see the changeover.

This storm is all about temperature and elevation, so the highest snowfall amounts have been in the far northern suburbs through the Poconos. As of late this afternoon, there are reports of 8" of snow in the Poconos, 3-6" in the far northern suburbs and Lehigh Valley, and up to 3" in the adjacent Philly PA suburbs.

The rain and snow will begin to come to an end from southwest to northeast from about 6-8 p.m. Temperatures will remain at or above freezing this evening, then fall below freezing in many spots later tonight. Beware of icy spots later tonight on untreated surfaces!

Drier weather does return for Thanksgiving Day, but it will stay on the cold side with clouds around. High temperatures remain below average near 40 degrees.
