Equipment Malfunctions From Frigid Temperatures Cause Cancellations, Delays On Rails

By Al Novack and Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The bitter cold temperatures and left over snow are making a mess of mass transit this morning.

SEPTA suspended service on the Media-Elwyn Regional Rail line for a couple of hours Thursday morning due to equipment problems. A number of other trains have been canceled, and there are delays of up to about 20 minutes system wide, on average.

Amtrak is operating on a modified schedule on the Northeast Corridor. Acela schedules have been reduced with fewer trains.

The Route 35 bus serving Manayunk and Roxborough remains out of service.

Travelers heading to the airport are urged to check with their airlines for information about specific flights.
