Eagles Release Linebacker Jason Phillips

PHILADELPHIA (PA) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Eagles announced their first transaction since the start of Training Camp. The Eagles have released linebacker Jason Phillips who was in his second season with the Eagles.

The Eagles signed Phillips as a free agent last season and he suffered a torn ACL during Chip Kelly's first camp in Philadelphia. Phillips was competing for a spot as an inside linebacker among a crowded group of players.

Phillips was drafted in the fifth round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. Phillips has recorded two tackles through the team's first two preseason games of 2014. NFL teams are not required to submit their first list of cuts until Tuesday, August 26th, but they made their decision on Phillips a week early.
