Eagles Exercise Fifth Year Option For Fletcher Cox
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles have exercised the fifth year option on the contract for defensive end Fletcher Cox. The decision means that Cox will now be under contract with the Eagles through the 2016 season.
Cox is coming off one of his best seasons as an Eagle and is entering his fourth year with the team.
The defensive end appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles last season and recorded 61 tackles to go along with four sacks and a forced fumble.
Cox's impact on the Eagles front seven was very noticeable and it became clear throughout the season that the overall success of that unit hinged on the play of Cox.
Although Cox now has the security of another season under contract with the Eagles, it is not entirely guaranteed that he will play that year in Philadelphia.
With the draft set to begin on Thursday, Cox's name has been floated around as a potential trade chip should the Eagles decide to trade up in the first round.
