Drug Companies Ignoring FDA Recommendations
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It isn't widely publicized but the FDA is required to work with drug companies during the development of medications and to give helpful tips in the early stages.
A new report looked at a year's worth of newly-approved medications. The scientists traced what interactions the drug firms had with the FDA during the trial phase and found out that, although the FDA provided advice along the way, the majority of pharmaceutical companies ignored nearly 25% of the recommendations.
The article concludes that it would make good sense to require drug companies to follow these recommendations. One of the advantages would be getting medications on the market sooner.
