Drivers Win In "Price War" Between Two Deptford Gas Stations

By Jim Melwert

DEPTFORD, N.J. (CBS) -- Gasoline prices at several South Jersey stations are dipping under $2 a gallon. And a "price war" between two stations in Deptford, New Jersey has pushed them even lower.

The Gulf station at Delsea Drive and Cooper Street, and the Citgo station along Cooper at Walker Avenue have been going back and forth. When John from Deptford stopped in to fill his tank the cash price per gallon was down to...

"$1.87," he said. "I'll take it."

Helen from Deptford said there were so many cars waiting to get the pumps, they were spilling out of the lot.

"And it's been a line up on (Route) 47 since," she said. "And over on this side, on Cooper street. It's crazy."

John said the line was only a couple minutes and the wait was worth it.

"I'm filling my tank for half the price as I was before," he said, "$15."

The average price in South Jersey is $2.13 a gallon, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic's fuel gauge report. Across the river in Southeastern Pennsylvania the average is $2.48 a gallon.
